Meals and Nutrition

Now Enrolling in Vancouver, Salmon Creek and Battle Ground

We serve healthy meals and snacks throughout the day at no additional charge.

Meals are served family-style in our Preschool and School-Age classrooms. This makes mealtime so much more than just a time to eat! The children are:

  • Learning good table manners
  • Participating in appropriate conversation with peers and teachers
  • Developing fine motor skills
  • Learning to try new foods

Children’s Village participates in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). CACFP is administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and provides funding to support healthy meals and snacks in child care centers, family day care homes, after school programs, emergency shelters, and adult day care centers. Its goal is to promote wellness, healthy growth, and development for children and adults in care settings.

CACFP meals follow USDA nutrition guidelines:

  • Breakfast: Milk, fruits or vegetables, and grains
  • Lunch/Supper: Milk, grains, meat or other proteins, fruits, and vegetables
  • Snacks: Two different servings from milk, fruits, vegetables, grains, or other proteins

These standards ensure that participants receive balanced, nutritious meals that support growth and health. Read more about CACFP food pattern requirements here: CACFP Food Pattern Information

Our menus meet CACFP requirements and:

  • Encourage children to eat more fruits and vegetables. We serve one fruit and one vegetable (or two vegetables) at each meal. Additional fruits and vegetables are served at snack time.
  • Incorporate more whole grains into children’s diets. Each day at least one serving of grains is whole grain-rich. We serve whole grain rich pasta, breads and crackers.
  • Limit added sugars in the foods children eat. The cereals and yogurt we serve have low added sugar. We don’t serve the children juice, cake, cookies or other sugar-sweetened desserts at mealtime.
